Our philosophy
To learn a new discipline or to improve in it, we need good conditions.
Thus, at Azores Freediving, we have chosen to welcome a maximum of 4 students for all our courses. The teaching is done on a workshop composed of a large round buoy to which is suspended a weighted rope. The rope serves as a guide, a reference and an aid to immersion.
Come with peace of mind, we offer you all the freediving equipment for the duration of your course.
The departures are done from a large and comfortable semi-rigid boat or from the shore and the swimming pool sessions in our partner hotel. We offer daily snacks, water and tea.
Training to freedive in the Azores is a sport with a unique added dimension. Indeed, through your training, you will be able to say that you are an "Ocean Freediver", in other words a freediver who knows how to adapt in a moving environment, with currents and waves. A unique experience because your training, also made of excursion, will provide you with intense moments of viewing a passing turtle, a school of white trevally or even a Mobula ray.

Program over 2 days
- 2 relaxation and stretching sessions
- 2 sessions of apnea in the pool : STA + DYN
- 2 vertical freedive sessions in the ocean
- 2 excursions to 2 of our favorite sites
Your discoveries at the end of these 2 days
- Relaxation, complete & recovery breathing
- Duck dive, finning, equalization
- Safety on the rope and during excursion in pairs
- Behaviour code while freediving in pairs in the ocean
- Free immersion up to 20m deep (max.)

Immersion 390€
3 days
Equipment and apnea insurance included. AIDA2 certification non included (+20€).
Prerequisite: Be able to swim 200m without fins or 300m with fins non stop.
Program over 3 days
- 2 relaxation and stretching sessions
- 2 sessions of apnea in the pool : STA + DYN
- Theory review and exam
- 3 vertical freedive sessions in the ocean
- 2 excursions to 2 of our favorite sites
What you will learn in this training
- Precise theoretical knowledge of apnea
- Relaxation, complete & recovery breathing have no more secrets for you
- Efficient duck dives and finning
- You know how to define your buoyancy
- You know how to equalize gently
- You know how to do surface and deep rescue
In a nutshell
- You will hold your breath for 2 minutes
- You will be able to swim 40m long just below the surface on a single breath
- You will freedive with bi fins to a depth of 20m (minimum 12m)
A written exam completes this practice
(75% correct answers required)

Sensation 450€
3,5 days
Equipment and apnea insurance included. Crossover AIDA2 (+130€). AIDA3 certification non included (+20€).
Prerequisite: AIDA 2 or equivalent (crossover).
Program over 3,5 days
- 2 relaxation and stretching sessions
- 3 sessions of apnea in the pool : STA + DYN
- Theory review and exam
- 4 vertical freedive sessions in the ocean
- 1 excursion to one of our favourite site
What you will have learned at the end of this training
- A thorough knowledge of the discipline and the tools to progress with your partner
- How to prepare, practice and recover from your freediving session
- The discovery of the free fall
- Increased confidence as a safety freediver diver
- How to deal with the unexpected during your freediving session
In a nutshell
- You will hold your breath for 2 min 45 s
- You will be able to swim 55m long just below the surface on a single breath
- You will freedive with bi fins to a depth of 30m (minimum 24m)
A written exam completes this practice
(75% correct answers required)
Bonus : As well as taking away a richly instructive manual, we will give you lots of tips on how to practice afterwards and perfect your equalization. You will also leave with some great souvenir photos & videos!

DEEP Course 200€
From Frenzel to
Mouthfill - Frenzel-Fattah
You equalize head first without any difficulties until you reach a certain depth ?
Let us teach you the way to go further down and extend your dives to the deep blue !
Program content & Target
- Understand how equalization works, how to store more air and how to use it to go further down
- Learn step by step the Mouthfill Frenzel-Fattah and reverse packing techniques
- 1-year access to the "Share Equalization" platform : Dry exercices, demo videos, advice
- 4 online and private sessions of 1h with us to guide you through all the exercices

Recommendation & information
The above classes are available from the age of 16 and the AIDA Junior course (please contact us in case of interest) from the age of 12, subject to parental consent. We also give private lessons of monofin (provided) in the pool or in the sea from 100€ for a 2h session. More information via our contact section.
We advise you to stay on the island for more days than those planned for your course. Indeed, we sometimes have to adapt the program for weather reasons. In addition, you will appreciate to have one or two days off to walk around and/or enjoy some excursions in addition to your training.
The Immersion and Sensation courses do not necessarily lead to a certification equivalent to the level targeted. At least, you will be certified at the lower level and you will be given a certificate of competence allowing you to validate the missing items within one year with the AIDA instructor of your choice.
Note : If you think you could have trouble with equalization, we advise you to contact us for a free check. If required, you will be invited to follow an Equalization course before coming to the Azores for your freediving course.
